88th Academy Awards

The 88th Academy Awards unfolded at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The ceremony was overseen by producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin, with Glenn Weiss at the helm and Chris Rock as host. Spotlight clinched two awards, notably securing the coveted 'Best Picture' accolade. Mad Max: Fury Road claimed six awards. The Revenant garnered three awards, with Alejandro G. Iñárritu honored as 'Best Director' and Leonardo DiCaprio securing his win for 'Best Actor' after five previous nominations and no wins spanning two decades. Brie Larson won 'Best Actress' award for Room. Supporting acting honors went to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies and Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl.

During the award season, the hashtag #oscarsowhite gained attention for the lack of representation of minorities in the industry.

The gift bag that nominees receive was worth $232,000 this year a 40 percent increase from last year's $160,000 bag.
