The 87th Academy Awards, honoring the best films of 2014, was held on February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. ‘Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’ and ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ both received the highest number of nominations, with nine each. ‘Birdman’ won four awards, including Best Picture. Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, took home the Oscar's for Best Director, becoming the second consecutive Mexican to win in this category, following Alfonso Cuarón's win for ‘Gravity’. Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor for his role as Stephen Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything’, while Julianne Moore received Best Actress for her performance in ‘Still Alice’. Supporting Actor and Actress awards went to J.K. Simmons for ‘Whiplash’ and Patricia Arquette for ‘Boyhood’, respectively.
