The 86th Academy Awards, was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, on March 2, 2014. The Best Picture category featured a range of films, including the historical drama '12 Years a Slave', the space odyssey 'Gravity', and the character-driven 'American Hustle'. '12 Years a Slave', directed by Steve McQueen secured three Oscars, including the 'Best Picture' Award. The category of 'Best Director' witnessed a historic achievement as Alfonso Cuarón became the first Mexican filmmaker to win the award. Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett received accolades for their lead performances in 'Dallas Buyers Club' and 'Blue Jasmine', respectively, earning them the 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress' Awards.
