This Ret Turner's design is one of the flamboyant costumes created for Elton John's Jump Up World Tour, which included 11 costume drawings depicting John in various guises such as a clown, a generalissimo, a rooster, a pirate, and as Gainsborough's 'Blue Boy.' The tour ran from March 1982 to October 1983, connected with his album, Jump Up! All the costume drawings were mixed media on illustration paper, with three signed by Ret Turner and one labeled Elton. The paper matched with 'Ret Turner' printed on the bottom margin, annotated, and each with swatches of cloth taped to the sheet. During his 1982 tour, Elton John was seen performing in this costume, even sharing the stage with Freddie Mercury in a performance at Manchester's Apollo Theatre.
