On June 25, 2017, John performed a tribute to George Michael at Twickenham Stoop, in the UK, on what would have been Michael's 60th birthday by singing 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me,' from the Caribou album, which he and George Michael first performed at Live Aid in 1985 and later in March 1991, when Michael brought out John as a surprise guest for a duet at Wembley Arena. The song was released as a single later that year, becoming a No. 1 hit in the UK and earning a Grammy nomination for 'Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.' The singer told the crowd that he hadn't had the chance to play the song in England since George died, which he described as 'devastation' and as one of the hardest times of his life.
