John announced his retirement from touring in 2018, and his final concert tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road, a reference to his 1973 album 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,' began with a show at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on September 8, 2018, and ended on July 8, 2023, with a concert in Stockholm, Sweden, both sold-out events. During the tour, Elton John performed at some of the world's largest stadiums, including the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, where he had last performed in 1975. Photographer David LaChapelle designed the main promotional poster for the tour, featuring a photo of the singer standing in front of a winding yellow brick road that leads into the distance and symbolizes John's journey through life and his music.
