In September 1980, Elton John performed a 2-hour show for more than 400,000 people in Central Park, NY. Although John had moved away from his flamboyant concert outfits, he gave in when Bob Mackie offered to design a Donald Duck costume for the show. For most of the concert, John wore a military-style suit adorned with piano keys and abstract designs. However, after the first encore, he disappeared backstage for a costume change. He later revealed that the transformation between songs ended up being the 'longest costume change in history.' Despite the challenges, fans waited for him to re-emerge. As he sat down on his piano bench, he realized that the padding wouldn't allow him to work the foot pedals easily. Ultimately, it didn’t stop him from turning in a memorable rendition of ‘Your Song.’
