Elton John performed at Live Aid in front of 72,000 people at Wembley Stadium, London, on the 13th of July 1985. Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organized the event to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. It is estimated that it raised over $100 million. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population. Sir John sang many of his classic hits, such as 'Your Song,' 'Rocket Man,' and 'Candle in the Wind'. He also performed duets with Kiki Dee on 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' and George Michael on 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', first played together at the event. Despite the positive response he received, according to Elton, it was the band Queen who 'stole the show.'
