'Barbie Girl' is a song by the Danish-Norwegian Europop group Aqua, released in 1997 as the second single from their debut studio album 'Aquarium.' The song reached the top charts in over 20 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The official music video racked up more than 1.2 billion views. The same year, Mattel sued MCA Records, alleging the song violated their copyright and that the 'kiss me here, touch me there, hanky-panky' part of the lyrics damaged Barbie’s reputation. The court eventually ruled against Mattel, noting that the song was protected as a parody. In 2009, Mattel used an adapted version in a commercial, and a new version of the song featuring Aqua, Nicki Minaj, and Ice Spice was featured on the soundtrack of Barbie: The Movie.
