Fashion designer Billy Boy created the 'Le Nouveau Theatre de la Mode' Barbie doll for Mattel France in May 1986 to celebrate the first Barbie Retrospective exhibit in Paris. The doll was limited to 10,000 units and sold exclusively in Europe. His second creation for Mattel was the 'Feeling Groovie' Barbie in 1986.
Boy was born in Vienna and grew up in London in the 1970s. He moved to New York City in the early 1980s and became part of Andy Warhol's inner circle at The Factory. He was heavily influenced by punk rock culture and often incorporated elements from pop culture into his collections. Billy Boy has partnered with other prestigious brands, including Moschino, another Mattel collaborator.
