The American fantasy comedy film 'Barbie' was released on July 21, 2023. Actress Margot Robbie, whose production company LuckyChap Entertainment acquired rights to the Barbie IP years before the film came out, plays the modern interpretation of the main character. This is the first live-action Barbie movie ever produced, following many computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming television films. The story follows Barbie and Ken as they embark on a journey of self-discovery in the real world. The cast includes other well-known actors and singers besides Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who plays 'just' Ken. The film was produced by Mattel Films and Warner Bros. Pictures, with Greta Gerwig making history as the first solo female director to achieve over 1 billion dollars in revenue for her work, becoming the studio's highest-grossing movie. It also received nine nominations and won the first-ever Golden Globe for 'Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.'
